Original Resin Guide

Original Resin is the stamina that gates your progression. Understanding its regeneration, the 160 cap, and where each point is best spent lets you grow steadily instead of burning a scarce resource on the wrong domain.

1. What Original Resin is

Original Resin is the energy you spend to claim rewards from Domains, Ley Line Outcrops, and boss fights. Running the fight is free; collecting the loot costs Resin. That distinction matters because you can clear content to help a friend or finish a quest without paying Resin, but the materials you actually need for upgrades only drop once you spend it. Resin is the single resource in Genshin Impact subject to a true recharge timer, which makes it the long-term pace-setter for your account. Everything else — Mora, XP books, artifacts — is downstream of how you spend these points.

2. How Resin regenerates

Resin recovers at 1 point every 8 minutes, for a maximum of 160. A full empty-to-full refill takes 21 hours 20 minutes (1280 minutes). Regen runs whether you are online or offline, and it begins the moment you drop below the cap. When you sit at 160/160 the timer halts, so every eight minutes at cap is permanently lost progress — the most common efficiency leak on new accounts is simply not logging in to spend it. Two supporting currencies refill Resin instantly: Fragile Resin (restores 60, from Adventure Rank rewards and the Battle Pass) and Transient Resin (restores 60, bought in the Serenitea Pot's Realm Depot for 1200 Realm Currency, expires after about two weeks). You can also convert 50 Primogems into 60 Resin, up to 6 times per day at rising cost — almost never worth it when those Primogems could be a wish.

3. Condensed Resin

Condensed Resin is a craftable token that lets you claim double rewards from one Ley Line Outcrop or Domain run, saving real time. The recipe is learned by reaching Liyue Reputation Rank 3 (which itself requires AR 25 and clearing the Liyue Archon chapter), then crafted at any alchemy bench using 40 Original Resin + 1 Crystal Core + 100 Mora. You can hold up to 5 at once. Crafting it does not pause your regen or raise the 160 cap; it is a way to "store" Resin you cannot spend today so a later long session is more efficient.

Condensed Resin works on Ley Line Outcrops and Domains (talent, weapon, and artifact), but it cannot be used on world bosses or weekly Trounce bosses — those always cost ordinary Resin per claim. So you craft Condensed Resin for batch farming books and artifacts, never for boss days. Use it when you know you will run the same domain many times, not for one-off clears.

4. Domain types and their costs

Domains are instanced fights that cost 20 Resin per claim and are the backbone of character and weapon growth. Talent Domains drop talent-level materials on a fixed weekday rotation (certain book families appear on specific days), so check the calendar before burning Resin or you will farm the wrong books. Weapon Ascension Domains drop weapon materials on their own rotation. Artifact Domains drop artifact sets and are the only Resin sink where the 5-star guarantee matters: starting at AR 45 a completed artifact domain is guaranteed at least one 5-star piece, which is why artifact farming is a late-game habit, not a week-one one. All three domain types accept Condensed Resin for double rewards.

5. World bosses and weekly Trounce bosses

World (elite) bosses — the open-world bosses that drop character ascension gems — cost 40 Resin per claim and cannot be paid with Condensed Resin. They are the bottleneck for breaking character level caps, so they get priority whenever your carry is stuck at a level gate. Weekly Trounce bosses (the story-linked bosses like Dvalin or Andrius) cost 30 Resin for your first three clears each week, then 60 Resin from the fourth clear onward. Because of that discount window, clear your three discounted Trounce runs every week before spending Resin elsewhere — 90 Resin secures materials you cannot get any other way, and the discount resets Monday.

6. Ley Line Outcrops

Ley Line Outcrops are the overworld Blossoms that cost 20 Resin each and accept Condensed Resin. The Blossom of Wealth pays Mora, and the Blossom of Revelation pays character XP books (Hero's Wit and the like). These are your fallback spend when no ascension or talent material is blocking you, and they are the most efficient pure XP-per-Resin source for raising Adventure Rank. Run them when you are dry on Mora or books and have no closer bottleneck, but do not default to them over boss and domain materials that actually unlock levels.

7. Daily commissions and Resin refills

Your daily Primogem income is tied to Resin discipline. Daily Commissions unlock at AR 12: four short tasks each pay 10 Primogems, and turning all four in to Katheryne at the Adventurers' Guild grants a 20-Primogem bonus, for 60 Primogems per day. That is roughly 1800 Primogems a month from a few minutes of play, making commissions the most reliable free wish source in the game. They cost no Resin, so there is no excuse to skip them.

Beyond natural regen, you top up Resin with Fragile Resin (save for AR 45+ artifact pushes), Transient Resin (the Serenitea Pot refill, use before it expires), and Primogem conversion (rarely worth it). The standard advice holds: spend Resin every day so it never caps, and convert a capped bar into Condensed Resin if you genuinely cannot play — that banks the value instead of letting regen die.

8. Resin-priority plan by Adventure Rank

Spend Resin on whatever blocks your next upgrade, not on the nearest domain. A practical priority by stage:

  • AR 12-16: commissions plus Ley Lines for Mora and XP as you learn the systems; Resin is plentiful and low-stakes.
  • AR 16-25: weapon and talent Domains for your carry, plus world bosses the moment an ascension gate appears. Do not touch artifact domains.
  • AR 25-44: push talent books and boss gems for your main team; clear the three discounted weekly Trounce bosses every Monday; start a second carry only after the first is built.
  • AR 45+: commit Resin to artifact Domains for your carry (the 5-star guarantee makes it worthwhile), with Condensed Resin to speed batch farming, and reserve Fragile Resin for big artifact pushes.

The through-line is constant: identify the single material stopping your next level or talent rank, spend Resin there, and let everything else wait. See the leveling guide for how Resin spend converts into Adventure Rank, and the artifacts guide for when to start farming sets on the artifact database.
