Dendro
Dendro is the nature element of Sumeru, added in version 3.0. It rebuilt the reaction system with Bloom, Hyperbloom, Burgeon, and the Quicken family, and it behaves more like a catalyst than a standalone damage type.

1. The Dendro vision and its identity
Dendro is the element of wisdom, tied to the nation of Sumeru and its Archon. Before version 3.0 it existed only as the Burning status; the update turned it into a full element with the deepest reaction tree in the game. The Traveler resonates with Dendro during the Sumeru story, which is where most players first meet the element's mechanics.
Dendro does not amplify like Melt or Vaporize. Instead it creates secondary objects and auras — Dendro Cores and the Quicken aura — that other elements then upgrade. That is why Dendro is described as a catalyst element: its value shows up through the reactions it enables rather than through big direct hits. For the units that carry it, see the character database and the tier list.
2. The Bloom reaction and its branches
Bloom is the Dendro plus Hydro reaction. It spawns a Dendro Core on the field, a small object that explodes after a few seconds for Area Dendro damage. Cores have a cap — once the limit is exceeded, the oldest one detonates. The character who created the core decides its damage, which scales with level and Elemental Mastery.
Hyperbloom
Applying Electro to a Dendro Core triggers Hyperbloom. The core transforms into a homing Sprawling Shot that seeks the nearest enemy and deals increased Area Dendro damage. Hyperbloom's damage scales with the Elemental Mastery of the Electro character who triggered it, so a high-EM unit like Kuki Shinobu becomes the team's damage anchor while a Dendro unit like Nahida supplies the cores.
Burgeon
Applying Pyro to a Dendro Core triggers Burgeon. The core detonates immediately for increased Area Dendro damage in a wider radius. Burgeon's damage scales with the Elemental Mastery of the Pyro character who triggered it. Because the explosion hurts any character standing in the blast, Burgeon teams position carefully or use a shielder.
Bloom teams are forgiving: the core creation is automatic, and you simply choose whether Electro or Pyro finishes the job based on which stat your trigger unit can stack. The build guides separate Hyperbloom and Burgeon stat lines because the trigger character and its Elemental Mastery are what matter.
3. The Quicken family: Spread and Aggravate
Dendro plus Electro creates the Quicken aura on an enemy. By itself Quicken does nothing, but it sets up two follow-up reactions that add flat damage to the triggering hit.
Aggravate
Hitting a Quickened enemy with Electro triggers Aggravate, which adds a flat damage bonus to that Electro hit. The bonus scales with the triggering character's level and Elemental Mastery and can critically strike. Aggravate teams build their Electro carry for Crit and Elemental Mastery and keep the Quicken aura refreshed with repeated Dendro and Electro application.
Spread
Hitting a Quickened enemy with Dendro triggers Spread, which adds a flat damage bonus to that Dendro hit. Like Aggravate, it scales with level and Elemental Mastery and can crit. Spread teams build their Dendro carry as a traditional damage dealer while a second Dendro or an Electro unit keeps the aura alive. The flat bonus means these teams value Elemental Mastery alongside Crit, a stat combination unique to the Catalyze archetype.
4. Burning and the missing pairings
Dendro plus Pyro also creates Burning, a Pyro damage-over-time effect that persists and can be refreshed by further Dendro application. Burning is the weakest of the Dendro reactions in raw numbers, but it has niche use in certain reaction-chaining teams. Dendro does not react with Anemo, Cryo, or Geo to form a unique reaction; instead, those elements can coexist on a target, letting you stack, for example, a Freeze and a Bloom in the same window. That coexistence is an advanced tool for players who want two reactions from one hit.
5. Dendro Resonance
Two Dendro characters in a party grant Dendro Resonance, called Sprawling Greenery. The base effect raises Elemental Mastery by 50 for the team. After triggering Burning, Quicken, or Bloom, all nearby party members gain an additional 30 Elemental Mastery for 6 seconds. After triggering Aggravate, Spread, Hyperbloom, or Burgeon, they gain 20 Elemental Mastery for 6 seconds. The two timers run independently, so a team that chains both a basic and an advanced reaction keeps a near-permanent Mastery stack.
Because every Dendro reaction scales with Elemental Mastery, this resonance directly raises team damage. Double-Dendro is therefore common in Bloom and Quicken teams even when only one Dendro unit is the "driver," since the second Dendro unit's resonance pays for itself.
6. Best Dendro characters and team archetypes
The Dendro roster is smaller than the older elements but covers every archetype the element enables. The units below define the roles.
Nahida
Nahida is the Dendro Archon and the universal enabler. Her off-field application marks enemies and lets a single on-field trigger set up Bloom or Quicken, and her skill provides Elemental Mastery to the team. She is the default Dendro slot in Hyperbloom, Burgeon, and Aggravate teams alike.
Alhaitham
Alhaitham is the premier Spread damage dealer. His kit builds stacks that convert into Dendro damage, and he wants a Quicken aura maintained by an Electro or second Dendro unit. He is the reference pick for Spread teams and scales hard with investment.
Tighnari
Tighnari is a bow Damage dealer who rewards charged-shot play inside a Quicken window. He is accessible and a strong early Dendro carry, fitting Aggravate teams that want a front-line Dendro unit rather than an off-field one.
Baizhu
Baizhu is a catalyst support who heals and shields while applying Dendro off-field. He sustains Bloom and Quicken teams that would otherwise lack survivability, and his Elemental Mastery sharing helps reaction damage. For stat targets, see the artifact index.
Emilie
Emilie is a Fontaine Dendro damage dealer built around a sentient lamp that deals off-field Dendro damage, with bonus scaling when Burning is active. She specializes in Burning and Bloom-adjacent teams and adds a self-contained damage profile to the element's options.
Team archetypes at a glance
Hyperbloom teams pair Nahida with a Hydro applicator and an Electro trigger built for Elemental Mastery. Spread teams pair Alhaitham with an Electro applicator and a flex. Bloom-Burgeon teams swap the Electro trigger for a Pyro one. Most of these share a Deepwood Memories wearer for Dendro resistance shred and a shielder for core-blast safety. Region farming for Dendro materials centers on Sumeru bosses and domains.
